Made by Hand is a short film series celebrating the people who make things by hand—sustainably, locally, and with a love for their craft.

The fifth film turns to bike maker Ezra Caldwell of Fast Boy Cycles, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2008. Told by his oncologist that he couldn’t ride bikes anymore, Caldwell turned to documenting his illness as thoroughly as his craft. “There’s nothing like a crisis to get you to focus, think clearly, and be able to present what you know in that moment,” he says in the film. Caldwell passed away in 2014, six years after his diagnosis.
